Phoot Camp coming to Brighton with an exhibition and talk

As part of the Brighton Photo Fringe Festival MiniClick is bringing a slice of Phoot Camp to Brighton in the form of an exhibition and talk. Phoot Camp is an invite-only photography retreat where photographers get together for a few days and create new work. It’s been held in San Francisco, LA, Marfa (Texas) and upstate New York. I have been lucky enough to attend three of the four camps. I have met some amazingly creative people at Phoot so I am really proud to bring a little slice of the camp to Brighton for the Photo Fringe.

Phoot Camp MiniClick Pecha Kucha night

As part of the programme of events that MiniClick is putting on for the Photo Fringe, 12 Phoot Campers – including me – will be talking about their work in the Pecha Kucha format. Each speaker will have 20 slides that will be displayed for a period of 20 seconds each, and speakers will speak for 6 minutes and 40 seconds in total. To kick things off Laura Brunow Miner the founder of Phoot Camp will tell the story of how it all started. Because most of the Phoot Campers are no where near the UL the majority of talks will be given remotely, but three of the Phoot Campers will be here in the flesh; Adrienne Pitts, Beto Ruiz Alonso, and myself. Speaking remotely will be: Cheyne Gallarde, Gabriela Herman, Henry Busby, Lauren Randolph, Lucy Hewett, Mark Lobo, Matthew Brush, Michael Forster Rothbart, Michelle Alexis Newman & Ryan Schude. For biographies of the speakers head over to this page on the new MiniClick at the Fringe website.

Combined the Phoot Campers have a large international following, so I thought it would be a good idea to attempt to broadcast the talks live on the internet. We are still working out the details now, but if you’re interested in viewing a live stream follow me (@lomokev) or @clickclickjim (MiniClick organiser) on Twitter where I am sure more details will emerge. If you join my mailing list I will email details of the live stream an hour before it starts; join in the right hand column of my site.

The talks will take place at the Old Market on Tuesday 9th October at 7pm (Doors open 6:30pm);  if your gonna come RSVP to this Facebook event page.

MiniClick is putting eleven events during the fringe for the full low head over to MiniClick at the fringe listings page here.

Phoot Camp exhibition at the Old Market

Over the course of the Brighton Photo Fringe Festival (5th October – 17th November) there will be an exhibition of Phoot Camper’s work at the Old Market. All the exhibited images where shot at a Phoot Camp, the work ranges from super slick set up shots to the more off the cuff moments captured on film compacts and Polaroid.

Seeing as most of the Phoot Campers are bang into Instagram I have put together a montage of their Instagram images. It is made up of 200 images and is two meters wide – each image is roughly 9cm square so you can see all the details – this is definitely something you need to see in the flesh!

Photographers showing larger work are: Adrienne Pitts, Anjali Pinto, Cody Bratt, David Todd, Gabriela Herman, Henry Busby, Beto Ruiz Alonso, Lauren Randolph, Lisa Weatherbee, Liz Devine, Lucy Hewett, Mark Lobo, Matthew Brush, Michael Forster Rothbart, Michelle Alexis Newman, Neil Berrett, Nina Westervelt, Ryan Schude, Steph Goralnick & Kevin Meredith

The show is at the Old Market from 5th October – 17th November and it’s open: Mon-Fri 13:00-17:00 Sat-Sun 10:00-17:00

The Old Market is located:
11a Upper Market St
Hove
BN3 1AS

Hope to see you at one of the many MiniClicks in the coming weeks!
