Brighton Christmas day swims
Shot at the Brighton Christmas day swims in 2005, 2011 and 2014. The Brighton Christmas day swim is not organised by anyone, it’s just traditionally happened every Christmas day at 11am. I’ve been documenting Brighton Swimming Club since 2003 take look at my swimming club pictures and my snowy swim pictures here.
Brighton Christmas day swim 2014. In 2012 and 2011 the council took the decision to close the beach because of bad weather to prevent people from swimming, no one tried in those years. In 2014 the decision was taken to close the beach two weeks before Christmas day. It turned out that Christmas 2014 was sunny and the sea was flat so small group of people went swimming despite the beach closure.
Brighton Christmas day swim 2014. Because of the small numbers of swimmers I think swimmers were outnumbered by photographers in 2014.
Brighton Christmas day swim 2011. 2011 was a rough year several people had to helped out of the water and one unfortunate person was rescued and taken to hospital.
Brighton Christmas day swim 2005. Turns out the chap in this image catching his breath is David Bramwell. David is the author of the Cheeky Guide To Brighton which I lent of Brighton Swimming Clubs existence.
