Snowy England January 2013

In January the UK got a decent amount of snow. Like most times we get snow, the South East gets the least amount. When it first started snowing I was in the New Forest with my family where we got a good covering and as soon as we got back to Brighton it started to snow here too – lucky us – double whammy! I tried to document as much as I could. Below  are some of my pictures from those few days.

Beautiful photos! Curiously how do you keep the snow from messing up your exposures?

The exposure was not to tricky on these pictures as they where all shot when it was overcast. What really plays havoc with exposure in snow scenes is when you have bright sunlight shinning onto snow, when that happens I will always check my histogram to see if any of the highlights are clipped. If they are I will under expose where necessary. The raw images above did seem a little dark when I shot them but as there was no clipping of the shadows or highlights the images can always be worked on.

Above you can see my raw file and the image once I have worked on it with Lightroom.
