5 tips for taking better holiday / vacation photos
I was originally commissioned to write this article by UK Best Buy for its magazine last summer. If you did not know Best Buy is huge electrical retailer in the US that was briefly in the UK. Soon after I was commissioned to write this piece they closed all the UK stores. I thought that I would let this article see the light of day again on my blog.

If you find this article interesting you should check out my instructional photography books and my photography courses – I have dates coming up in Brighton and Munich.

5 Lightroom tips (one for each year it has existed)
Update November 2012: Since writing these tips Lightroom 5 has been realised and I am happy to say all the tips below still work in Lightroom 5 and 4. The next two paragraphs might not be that relevant anymore so to get to the tips just click here.
Lightroom is Adobe’s flagship photo processing and organizing tool which celebrated its 5th birthday in February 2012 (I am a little late in posting this!). What better way can there be to celebrate this other than giving you my five top Lightroom tips? I started using it when it was version 1 with a G4 Power Book in April 2007. Its use is widespread amongst photographers now and I know fewer and fewer people using alternatives. I for one can’t image working without it. I don’t start up Photoshop anymore unless I want to combine two or more images or move things around in an image.

Lightroom 4 was released in March 2012 and one of the hottest features was the price drop. It’s now just £99 for the full version and £59 for the upgrade. I am pretty sure that when I got version 1 it was £250 or more. It’s one of the only things I really try and push on people that take my photography course is to get this software as it will make you life so much easier.
Read on if you want to get the low down on: Split toning, Target adjustment tool, Solo mode, Rejecting & Brush resizing

London Photography Festival 2012
The London Photography Festival (LPF) opened this week (1st of June) with multiple exhibitions across the Kings Cross area of London. I was luckily invited to the pre-launch day and launch party. I did not get to see all the shows as they are not all open yet but what I did see was really interesting. I have written a little about some of the shows below. It’s not intended to be a must see list of exhibitions from the festival as I would definitely recommend taking a day checking out all the work as most of the venues are walking distance from each other. The festival runs from June 1st – June 30th. All the info on the exhibitions, talks and workshops can be found on the LPF website.

Four months of Brighton street style
Brighton is about to get whole lot more fashion conscious in the upcoming days and it not just people wanting to look respectable for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. It’s also Brighton fashion week, so it’s seems like a good time to post the backlog of my montage portraits (published and unpublished) from the last four months of shooting for Brighton Source Magazine. If you would like more regular montage portrait updates check out my Fragmented Portraits Tumblr.

The Brighton Experience
The good people that used to run the North Lane photography gallery have not been resting on their laurels since they gave up there gallery. Last Christmas they launched The Brighton Photography Book made up of pictures from the last ten years of the brighton calendar. Now they have set up a pop up exhibition in the old Virgin Maga store in Brighton’s Churchill Shopping centre.

Brighton Open House 2012
During every weekend in May, I will exhibiting at an Open House exhibition at 21a Brunswick Square in Hove along with ten other artists. As usual I am exhibiting with my wife Rockcake who will have jewellery on show. Most of the work in the show is of a photographic nature to it but there is print making, illustration and sculpture on show too.
I am not going to go into details of everyone’s work but write about a few. Rob Orchard is showing a limited edition poster of his Brighton Pub project. On Sunday the 13th and Saturday 19th there will be an opportunity to get Dollerized by Lisa Bamford. Check my Dollerized portrait below to see what that entails. Lisa and I are also showing large range of block mounted prints.

Floating Memories talk at the Brighton Fishing Museum
The Floating Memories project was set up to archive and make accessible the past 150 years of the sporting and sea bathing heritage of Brighton Swimming Club, of which I am a member. Apart from cataloging and making sense of the immense archive of material, there are lots of upcoming events to help make the history come alive and create a narrative from the Club’s great story
