It’s all happening in Cardiff

It’s all going off in Cardiff, Photography wise that is. The Third Floor Gallery is opening in Cardiff with a new show by Peter Dench titled Love UK. The show is an exploration of what love is in the UK. I am sure its going to be a killer show you just need to check out some of his work to realize that.

The show opens at 7pm on February 12th and is on show till the 7th of march.

The Third Floor Gallery is a joint venture between Maciej Dakowicz and Joni Karanka. Maciej Dakowicz is a long time flickr friend of mine and is best know for documenting Cardiff at night. Joni Karanka also likes to shot Cardif at night and can be found on flickr here

Martin Parr is also opening a show in Cardiff at the same time. Martins new body of work “Working Men’s Clubs” will be on show at the Earlswood Working Men’s Club until March the 14th. You can find out more about this new body of work at Martin Parr’s Blog.

I was invited to go to both openings they just happened to be on two consecutive nights so it would have been a perfect excuse to take a trip to Wales but unfortunately I could not make it because of other commitments! If you live in that neck of the woods you need to spend the day in Cardiff and check out both these shows.

Full English in local flavour

I got another photo published in pictory. It was for a feature on the finest cuisine the world has to offer, so naturally they had to include one of my Full English shots!

Brighton street style

I have shot the trend spotting section in the February issue Brighton Source magazine, witch is kind of ironic because I am not big on fashion. I shot with my trusted lomo LCA using a montage technique to create highly detailed images, fair more detail that can be delivered from one 35mm film. You can pick up The Brighton Source for free at most cafes and pubs in Brighton. I am really getting into my lomo montages and hope to make this a regular thing with Source.

You can see more of my montage portraits in this flickr set. I also have two of my montages portraits (matthew montage and erinisfunky montage) on display at the Iydea cafe at 17 Kensington Gardens, Brighton until the 30th April. The ones on display are not just straight print outs from Photoshop but are made from real 6” by 4” prints.

I recently got a photograph published “Joachim Schmid Is Martin Parr – Martin Parr Is Joachim Schmid”. It’s an interesting little book project where Joachim Schmid went to the Berlin Art Forum with Martin Parr’s pass and took photos in Parr’s style. The second half of the book are photos picked from the Martin Parr WE ♥ U picked by Parr him self. The resulting book is great selection of photographs that could of been shot by Parr himself.

The photo of mine that is published in there is one of my snowy swimmer pics from 2007. You can see more of my snowy swimmer pictures in my snowy swimmers flickr set, seeing as there was a lot of snow in the past month I have added quite a bit to that set lately.

Pictory online photo magazine launched

Yesterday Pictory was launched, a new online photo mag witch is going to be releasing new content weekly. The brains behind this new site is Laura Miner who was also behind Phoot Camp. The site looks amazing as all the images are 1000 pixels wide + there is a super easy image navigation system just tap the left arrow key to jump to the next image. Any photography can submit content and there is already a list new themas that you can you submit to so what are you waiting for go sign up!  The first issue sees amazing photographer and good friend Steph Goralnick as the featured contributor so you know its going to be good!
