Talk / Panel discussion at Fabrica as part of the Brighton Digital Festival
As part of the Brighton Digital festival I will be giving a short talk and then taking part in a panel discussion at the Fabrica Gallery on Wednesday the 14th of September. Other artists taking part are Kirsty Hall, Photography collective Wandering Bears and Lucy Phillips creator of the What Cannot Be Seen. The theme for the evening is about how artists use the Internet not only to show their work but also as part of it, a la “the medium is the message”. Continue reading
Platform a group exhibition with Rockcakes and others
From now until September the 19th I will be taking part in a group show called Platform witch is being curated by my wife Rockcake at the Fishing Quarter gallery on Brighton sea front. The show is a mix of different disciplines so there is something for everyone. I will of course be showing my photography.
My MiniClick talk in full + future talks lomokev related and otherwise
Jim Stephenson has put my 76 minute MiniCLick talk online for your viewing pleasure. The talk is about the photographers that I find interesting and inspirational. I spoke about a mix of photographers from people I know to famous shooters from the past and present. If you want to discover more from any of the photographers work mentioned I have put links to all of them in this blog post.
While on the subject of talks there are loads of MiniClick related talks coming up and I will be speaking at the Margate photography festival in mid August. More details below.
Mini Click talk at Old Market Theatre Hove
On Thursday the 5th of July I will be giving a Mini Click talk in the Bar of the newly refurbished Old Market Theatre, the doors open at 6pm and the talk starts 7pm. This is a change of venue for the Mini Click talks as sadly Mini Click’s home for the past year Add The Colour is closing down. Dan (Add The Colour’s owner) has for the past year been a staunch supporter of everything Brighton Photography related. It was not just the Mini Click talks that where held there but other talks, workshops and numerous exhibitions. Just over a year ago my 2nd book was launched there when it first opened so have very happy memories of the cafe. I am sure, like me, all the Brighton photo massive will wish Dan all the best with what he dose next.
This Thursday I won’t be giving my usual talk because the way I figure it the people of Brighton are probably sick of hearing about me. I will be giving a complete new talk about the work of other photographers that interest and inspire me. These Photographers will range from famous photographers, internet celeb shooters and some offline photographers that unless you met you might not of heard of.
If you think that you are coming it would be really helpful if you could RSVP on this Facebook event page as that will let the Old Market know if they need any extra bar staff. Continue reading
Brighton exhibitions in May
May is shaping up to be a really busy month already, especially where the weekends are concerned and it’s all because of the Brighton Festival and Brighton Fringe. I have two exhibitions on one at an open house in Kemptown and one at the Old Market in Hove.
April trend spotting
The April issue of Brighton Source Magazine is out now which means it’s once again time to check out my street style section. At the moment the mag is only showing one of my montage shots as the street style section is one page so the only place to see all the shots is on my blog and my montage portrait flickr set.
Twestival 2011 lomokev charity goodie!
It’s Twestival time again! Twestival is an event where tweeters get together in different locations to have a party and raise some money for Charity. Tonight its Brightwest the Brighton event and like last year I am donating a prize that you can bid for in a charity auction.
Life and Leisure in Shoreham by Sea
Life and Leisure is an exhibition by Justin Sainsbury and Andrew Barns being held in an empty shop in Shoreham by Sea. On show is a 100 frameless prints captured around the south of England.
Justin visited a number of ‘niche’ hobby events across the South of England like Deadwood – a western pioneer town in a wood just off the A24 and War and Peace Show near Paddocks Wood witch is the largest World War Two vehicle living history event in the world. He documents the the assuming situations that present themselves when the 1940s collude with the 21st century like a Nazi hanging by the waltzers. Continue reading
