Brighton Photography Book and Brighton 2012 calendar

Nigel Swallow the man behind the long running Brighton calendar has put together a huge book of Brighton Photos. It’s not just huge because of its 328 pages but also because its dimensions size 34cm x 24cm, the only thing that is not huge about is the price £24! The book has been 10 years in the making because Nigel kept him self busy running a gallery and putting together a calendar every year. Most of the work in the book is Nigel’s, the rest is contributed by 50+ other local photographers including me. Below is a flip though of the book that I put together.

Lytro announce their first cameras

I wrote about Lytro being set up a while ago but last week they announced their product line up and specs of their forthcoming cameras. Lytro is a company that is bringing cameras to market that uses a technology called “light field photography”. The cameras capture light in a different way to a normal camera. As if by magic, once a photo is taken, the focus can be changed.

Amit Gupta of Photojojo needs a little help

This is Amit Gupta aka SuperAmit as he’s know on flickr & twitter AKA the guy that started Photojojo.

Amit Gupta needs your help finding a bone marrow donor

Amit recently started feeling tired all the time, usually when this happens to a San Francisco start up CEO it’s just “burn out” but unfortunately this was not the case. It turns out he has Leukemia. At the moment he is going through chemo but once done he will need a bone marrow transplant for the best chance of survival. Unfortunately because of his ancestry it’s tough to find a donor as not many people of South Asian decent are on the transplant register. If you are of South Asian decent (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Nepalis, Bhutan, Maldives, or Sri Lankan) you can get a free mouth swab kit to see if you are compatible donor (if you live in the United States or Puerto Rico).

If your not of South Asian decent or reside outside of the united states you can still help by: re-blogging this tumbler post and generally spreading the word.

Please help, Amit is a super cool guy he works hard and is definitely nice to people so deserves to get through this.

September Source Magazine street style

Brighton Source mag has once again hit the streets with one of my trend spotting pics inside. Check it out if you are in Brighton. Its been a month since I started Fragmented Portraits, my new Tumblr blog and I have already gained a few followers, which is great. I have been uploading new and old montage portraits to Fragmented Portraits. The beauty of this new blog is that the images are uploaded as PNGs which means that if you want to reblog them you will not get an ugly white border on Tumblr blogs that don’t have white backgrounds. But if Tumblr is not your thing you can still enjoy all the new images below and I will of course still be uploaded them to my Montage Portrait set on flickr.

Talk / Panel discussion at Fabrica as part of the Brighton Digital Festival

As part of the Brighton Digital festival I will be giving a short talk and then taking part in a panel discussion at the Fabrica Gallery on Wednesday the 14th of September. Other artists taking part are Kirsty Hall, Photography collective Wandering Bears and Lucy Phillips creator of the What Cannot Be Seen. The theme for the evening is about how artists use the Internet not only to show their work but also as part of it, a la “the medium is the message”.

The talk / panel discussion starts at 6pm and goes on till 8pm and is free. I have been told even though its free its best to book. You can do so by calling the Fabrica office on: 01273 778646.

More details of Fabrica’s Brighton digital events can be found on Fabrica’s site here and on the Brighton Digital festival site here.
