Travel Photographer of the Year 2013 exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society
I had a few hours spare in London when I was up for PhotoForum this week so I checked out the Travel Photographer of the Year 2013 exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society. It’s only on for another week so next Sunday (18th of August) will be your last chance to see it. Most of the exhibition is outside and there is a little coffee shop in the Geographical Society courtyard so you can enjoy a beverage while you view the work in out fine-ish summer weather.

Talk at PhotoForum in London on Thursday (14th March)
On Thursday 14th of March I’m giving a talk about my work at PhotoForum in London. PhotoForum is a free monthly photography talk with each of the events featuring two speakers. Speaking on the same night as myself will be photo journalist Mimi Mollica. I have spoken about my work in various places like: Book shops in San francisco, Google’s headquarters in California, galleries in Germany, Wales & Leeds, BLAB in Manchester, various Universities and of course the mighty MiniCLick! Until now I have not spoken in London, so it feels like quite a special event for me.

London Photography Festival 2012
The London Photography Festival (LPF) opened this week (1st of June) with multiple exhibitions across the Kings Cross area of London. I was luckily invited to the pre-launch day and launch party. I did not get to see all the shows as they are not all open yet but what I did see was really interesting. I have written a little about some of the shows below. It’s not intended to be a must see list of exhibitions from the festival as I would definitely recommend taking a day checking out all the work as most of the venues are walking distance from each other. The festival runs from June 1st – June 30th. All the info on the exhibitions, talks and workshops can be found on the LPF website.

The London street photography festival
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the launch of the London street photography festival. As part of the launch four of the venues were opened for a preview, I was able to make it around three of them. The Jewel in the crown of festival is the Vivian Maier exhibition. This is the first time Vivian Maier’s work has been shown in the UK. Vivian Maier’s photography was only just discovered even though she documented the world around her for her entire adult life. She passed away in 2009 and while she was alive she never showed her photography to anyone. The story of her works discovery and the secrets it has revealed is fascinating, currently a book of work is being published and a feature length documentary about her life is being made.
Hipstamatics exhibition hits London
Last Night I checked out the opening of the Hipstamatics Exhibition at the Orange Dot Gallery London. Its a crowd sourced exhibition made up of Hipstamatic shots submitted from all around the world to hipstamatics.com. Hipstamatic is one of the most popular iPhone photography applications. It emulates the look and feel of film with a variety of digital filters, lens and flashes.
